“You’ve seen Manny have that little decline. Manny is a good single-shot fighter and from day one I’ve said the only person who could beat Mayweather is Pacquiao,” Khan said via the mirro.co.uk. “But I’d go with Floyd because he has never been beaten, he’s a better boxer – and a boxer will always beat a fighter.”
I’m sure Pacquiao would have something to say about Khan saying he’s on the decline. It’s funny that Khan is taking shots at Pacquiao when he’s the WBO welterweight champion at the present time. Khan is just a challenger who still hasn’t captured another world title since getting beaten by Danny Garcia in 2012. Khan doesn’t have room to talk right now because he’s still slowly trying to bring his career back to where it was three years ago before getting whipped in back to back fights by Lamont Peterson and Garcia.
Pacquiao has looked pretty good in his last handful of fights since his loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. I don’t see any deterioration with the guy. Granted, he made a mistake against Marquez in 2012, but apart from that one moment where he got hit with a shot that he didn’t see coming, Pacquiao has dominated his last three opponents Brandon Rios, Tim Bradley and Chris Algieri and looked like the same fighter he was before the knockout loss to Marquez.
“He has been in with every fighter, with every style – come-forward fighters, backwards fighters, quick fighters, guys who are quick on their feet, slow on their feet – and he has answered all of their questions,” Khan said about Mayweather.
Mayweather is very skilled too and looking very good. However, it’s easy to understand why Khan is pouring the praise over the head of Mayweather because that’s the guy he so badly wants to fight. It makes a lot of sense for Khan to be smothering Mayweather with compliments right now because he pretty much needs him to win for him to get a big money cash out fight. I mean, if Pacquiao wins the fight, Khan probably isn’t going to get a fight against him due to Khan’s adviser Al Haymon not working with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum. I think that’s reason enough for the two of them not to face each other ever. From the way I see it, Khan’s only chance of a career high payday against a major star is if he can get a fight against Mayweather, and for that to happen Mayweather is going to need to beat Pacquiao.
“Four or five years ago, Pacquiao was doing the same,” Khan said. “He was beating everyone who was put in front of him, knocking them down, and knocking them out.”
