Rivera vs Martin: Round 1

Martin to the body early with a left hand. Rivera jabbing from distance, meeting only glove. Left to the body again from Martin. Left up top from Martin after Rivera misses a right. Martin putting some pressure on, pushes Rivera to the ropes, but Rivera ties up and gets back to the center. Good 1-2 from Rivera. Rivera really wants to get the jab established, but Martin makes that really hard. Martin reaching with a left hand late.

Fighters sort of collide both throwing, Rivera slips to the canvas. Martin sort of laid back more last round, and is doing it again this round. This is not a matchup to consider giving rounds away at all, or taking them slower. But maybe Martin really is that confident that he's going to run Rivera into something. We saw him do it a bit against Jackson Marinez. Martin just not throwing this round; he's not a volume puncher by trade, but even considering that. Rivera doing just enough to make the round fairly clear unless Martin lands something really big. And then Martin does land a couple lefts. He's trying to steal this one. And another left, that one to the body. Body shot from Rivera, Martin fires back upstairs. Martin working his angles. They collide again both throwing. I think Martin DID steal the round late.
