Loeffler: Klitschko, If He Returns, Should Fight Deontay Wilder

As various reports have stated in recent weeks, former heavyweight ruler Wladimir Klitschko is being pursued by streaming service DAZN.

The outlet has reportedly offered him a large amount of money for a three fight deal.

Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs), 42-years-old, has been out of the ring since suffering a TKO defeat at the hands of Anthony Joshua in 2017, before a crowd of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London.

Klitschjo had Joshua down in the fight and in serious trouble, but the British star rallied down the stretch to put away the veteran in the eleventh round.

A rematch was initially set for the fall of the same year, but then Klitschko announced his retirement.

For over a year on social media, he's been dropping hints of a comeback since hanging up the gloves.

Promoter Tom Loeffler, who worked closely with Klitschko throughout his career, would like to see him face former sparring partner Deontay Wilder, who holds the WBC heavyweight title.

Loeffler has no idea if Klitschko will ultimately decide to come back at this point.

“He had such a good championship run, that a lot of people want to see him back in the ring,” Loeffler told Sirius XM Boxing. “A company is offering him a lot of money to come back. He’s one of those brands that fans want to see him come back. I’d like to see him come back.

“I don’t know whether he is content with what he’s accomplished in his career already. You know, his brother Vitali was in the Hall of Fame last year and is the mayor of Kiev. And Wladimir has had one of the most storied championship runs.

“It will be his decision. If it makes sense, and he’s been posting videos and photos showing the bug is still somewhere in the back of his head. He came so close when he knocked down Anthony Joshua [but] my personal opinion is I’d like to see him and Deontay Wilder .

“Wladimir had such a great championship run and [coach] Emanuel Steward brought in the best sparring partners. He brought both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in as a sparring partners and now they are both champions. But I think it would be fireworks as Deontay has big punching power. That would be a tremendous fight. But that’s just my personal opinion. I’ll make that clear as I don’t want to get in trouble with him.”
