Bible, And His Faith For May 2 Fight Against Floyd Mayweather
Manny Pacquiao Turns To God, The Bible, And His Faith For May 2 Fight Against Floyd Mayweather
According to the Christian Post, Manny Pacquiao has turned to God, the Bible, and his faith in preparation for what has been called “The Fight of the Century” to settle the debate about who is the best boxer.
The highly anticipated boxing match that has been talked about for five years between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will finally take place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2.
For Manny, the boxing match is more than a fight to determine who is the best fighter in the world. Manny wants to do more than beat Mayweather, who is undefeated. Manny doesn’t want to let down his fans, family, friends, or his faith. He sincerely believes his Christian values will help get him through the fight that people are looking forward to.
“I want to please the Lord, my family, and my fans with this fight. I want them to know I fought for God and my country, to bring them honor and glory.”
The Telegraph reported that the outspoken evangelical Christian takes refuge in his Bible days before the fight. The Filipino world champion and politician continues to share Bible verses and uplifting words to his millions of followers. He considers himself spiritually and mentally ready to defeat Mayweather.
“I prepare mentally the same as I do with all of my other fights. I think I’m training for this fight with a little more focus. Spiritually, I pray for myself and also for my opponent.”
The 36-year-old says that his fight against Mayweather is the biggest of his career, but he is fighting for so much more than bragging rights, or the largest payout any professional boxer has ever collected.
Pacquiao, who is a husband and father of five, says there is much more to his life than boxing. He is not sure if he is going to retire next year or not, but he wants to continue being a role model to boxing fans and others around the world.
Pacquiao is not just fighting in a boxing ring, he is also fighting the good fight of faith that is outlined in the Bible in 1 Timothy 6:12. Even when the bout is over, Pacquiao wants people to know that he did his best while he was in the ring.
Pacquiao, whose nickname is Pac-Man, says whether he wins or loses, he is thankful to all of his supporters and those who have been praying for him. Nick Vujicic, a Christian motivational speaker, met with Pacquiao and his entire family to pray for the safety of Manny and his opponent during the fight.
Raised in the Roman Catholic faith, Pacquiao is currently a practicing Evangelical Protestant. It is interesting that all five children of his children have biblical names. Their names are Emmanuel, Michael Stephen, Mary Divine Grace, Queen Elizabeth, and Israel. |
