As part of the celebration for the 56th anniversary of the World Boxing Council, the president of the organization, Mauricio Sulaimán, revealed that they are already preparing a special belt for the upcoming middleweight unification clash on May 4 between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs.
"We are already preparing the belt 'Adolfo Lopez Mateos' for the weekend of Cinco de Mayo with Canelo-Jacobs and it will be spectacular, it will be difficult to overcome the Huichol belt and the Chiapas belt, but we are excited, '' Sulaiman said to ESPN Deportes.
Canelo vs. Jacobs will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The fight between Canelo and Jacobs, said Sulaiman, is the kind of fight that fanatics will go crazy about - and the kind that the WBC will fully support.
"At the WBC, we feel that boxing is the tree that provides shade for boxers," said Sulaiman.
"Our commitment is to continue ** boxing safer, take care of the fighters, and on the other hand look for the biggest fights. Today we can say that boxing is a safer sport than it was in 1963 when the body of work was born thanks to President Adolfo López Mateos."
There was a lot of support for Sulaiman at the recent gathering.
Among those present at the anniversary celebration were Mexican boxing legends like Rubén Olivares, Carlos Zárate, Humberto González, Rafael Herrera, Pipino Cuevas, Lupe Pintor, former champions such as Israel Vázquez, Isaac Bustos, José Luis Bueno, César Bazán, Ana María Torres, José Antonio Aguirre, Carlos Cuadras, Pablo Cano, Zulina Muñoz, Esmeralda Moreno, Silvia Torres, champions such as Mariana Juárez, Ibeth Zamora and Guadalupe Bautista, as well as emerging figures such as Eduardo 'Rocky' Hernández, Stephanie Martínez, Alan Davis Picasso and Alejandro Dávila .
