WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez believes a knockout is necessary in order to beat Manny Pacquiao on November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Marquez moves up to a catch-weight of 144-pounds to challenge Pacquiao for his WBO welterweight crown. In their two prior meetings, in 2004 and 2008, they fought to a twelve round draw and Pacquiao won a split decision in the rematch. Marquez considers both results to be robberies and he wants to avoid their third meeting from reaching the judges.

When we fought, I landed more power shots, but the judges didn't see it that way. To avoid all of this, it is necessary to knock him out and we will be fighting to do that. It's going to be difficult [to stop him] but not impossible. I already [beat him] twice, and the only difference here is the weight. I'm work to gain weight but with speed and power, and that's what is motivating me is get up to run and to train hard. The fight with Mayweather, the experience helped me,Marquez said.
