LAS VEGAS – According to Dana White, the future of the women’s featherweight division lies in Amanda Nunes’ hands.

Women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Nunes (21-4 MMA, 14-1 UFC) notched her second title defense at 145 pounds when she made quick work of Megan Anderson with a submission at UFC 259.

It was another easy and dominant win for the champion, and the promotion continues to scramble for challengers for the consensus greatest female fighter of all time.

With Nunes’ wins over former Invicta FC featherweight champions Felicia Spencer and Anderson, it may be a struggle to find her a worthy challenger at 145 pounds. But White says it’ll be up to Nunes on whether or not the division remains in the UFC.

“We’ll keep that division cranking as long as the champ-champ wants to defend it,” White told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at the post-fight news conference.

White had nothing but praise for Nunes, who he’d like to see make a quick turnaround to defend her bantamweight title. With Julianna Pena losing her next opponent, Holly Holm, and chomping at the bit to get a crack at Nunes, White thinks the fight makes sense.

“She’s incredible, and she goes in there and she made it look easy tonight against a really tough girl who hits hard who came to win, so it couldn’t happen to a better human being,” White said on Nunes. “She’s one of the sweetest people on earth, and I’m really happy for her. We’re talking about turning her around quick here for the 135-pound title since tonight was an easy night for her.

“Julianna Pena has been texting all of us all night. She’s been busy tonight. Yeah, we can do that.”
